State Delivered Kindergarten
Here at Stonehenge State School we deliver a State Delivered Kindergarten (SDK) program.
SDK programs ensure all children have access to a kindergarten
program in the year before school, no matter where they live. The kindergarten program is delivered by our qualified teaching staff
and is available for 5 day/25hrs per fortnight during school terms.
The SDK program recognises, values and builds on the cultures,
languages and practices that children bring from their families and
communities.
Kindergarten is a part-time educational program for children in the
year before Prep (the first year of school in Queensland).
At kindergarten children make friends, explore new environments
and have fun learning through meaningful, inclusive experiences
and interactions that support their early learning.
Kindergarten programs develop a child’s physical, social, intellectual, language and emotional abilities. Kindergarten provides young children with opportunities to learn in a respectful environment to:
-make friends, collaborate and play with others
- express and imagine themselves through art, dance and dramatic play
-build independence through decision making and negotiation
-strengthen their confidence and resilience
- communicate ideas and feelings
-build on their knowledge and explore new ideas through investigations and play
- develop early reading, writing and numeracy skills.
State Delivered Kindergarten is delivered in accordance with the Queensland kindergarten learning guideline (QKLG) which provides guidance for planning, interacting with children, monitoring and assessing, and sharing information in kindergarten contexts across Queensland. The QKLG aligns with Belonging, Being and Becoming—The Early Years Learni
