Stonehenge State School is a Band 5 Small School located in the remote community of Stonehenge, Central Queensland. The school was established on September 3rd, 1900 and though we remain cognisant of our roots, our vision relies on innovating into the future. We believe that innovation breeds student improvement and gives 21st century learners a real opportunity to step into an ever evolving workforce. Indeed, with unrivaled access to a 3D printer, design software, state of the art computers, drones, virtual and augmented reality, iPads and action cameras, we believe that the students at Stonehenge State School are prepared for the future.
With our many devices, Stonehenge State School approaches curriculum from an inquiry based perspective where learning experiences are centred upon student needs and are intergrated across all subject areas. Just as life is connected, we believe that students learn when they are delivered a curriculum that is connected. This is demonstrated during timetabled periods of project time whereby students design, print, market and sell 3D objects to the community and raise funds for their Student Council. Other projects include the planning, filming and publishing of promotional videos for the school and caring for a community garden.
The teaching staff at Stonehenge State School are driven by student data and use their knowledge of this to guide future learning experiences accordingly. In addition to the standard requirements of curriculum implementation as outlined in the Australian Curriculum, teachers use research based programs to collect data and improve student outcomes.
Currently, Stonehenge State School implements focused teaching with assitance from CAMS and STAMS, CARS and STARS, Basic Skills - Mathematics, Basic Skills - Language Conventions, Sevent Steps to Writing Success, Reading Eggs, Reading Eggspress, Skoolbo and Essential Assessment.
Outside of the classroom, students are offered rich learning experiences through structured Health and Physical Education lessons and hands-on play at break times. In order to achieve this, Stonehenge State School utilises a full size tennis court, football field, soccer field, basketball court, handball court, mountain bikes and a huge range of sporting equipment. All of these resources are complimented by student friendly artificial turf coverings that minimise injury and are aesthetically pleasing.
